The last undeveloped outer bank (the outer curve of a river) of the Inn is located at Heisting, southwest of Mühldorf a. Inn. The Heistinger Wall, also called Hörndlberg, with a height of up to 45 meters, is at the same time one of the highest riverbank cliffs in Central Europe. The boundary between the molasse sediments and the glacial gravels is formed here as a clearly visible, water-impermeable step layer, the so-called Flinz.
An impressive natural spectacle is the erosion of the slope: Since the Ice Age gravel slope continuously subsides at the continuously growing outer radius of the river, boulders and large forest pines repeatedly fall into the river.
One can either view the Heistinger Wall from the Ebinger side of the Inn or visit the Heistinger Wall via the observation platform from Obermoosham/Polling.
Tip: Detailed information about the history of the outer bend is available at the observation platform near Obermoosham/Polling.
