Heiden circular route

Directly from the station, first follow a short stretch along the main road towards Grub (AR). Then the path leads along side streets past the clinic at Rosenberg and again a short piece along the main road until it turns right towards Frauenrüti.

Along the natural road past the farm and you will soon see a highlight of the hike directly in front of you, the Grub-Grub pedestrian suspension bridge, which was opened in 2019. Crossing the 180-meter-long bridge is only recommended for those without fear of heights, as it leads 46 meters above the Mattenbachtobel.

After entering the suspension bridge in Appenzell Grub, we leave it in St. Gall Grub. The path continues through the village and then towards the Five-Country View (follow signposts), which is reached after a short but somewhat steeper path. On this height (900 meters above sea level) another highlight of the hike opens up. The view of Lake Constance and the 5 countries is simply sensational! The route then follows sections through forests and meadows to Wartensee Castle. From there, you travel comfortably back to Heiden with the Appenzeller Bahnen.
