To get a first glimpse of the Seiser Alm’s beauty, this trail—created in memory of the famous mountaineering couple Hans Steger and Paula Wiesinger—is the perfect choice. The hike begins at the upper station of the Seiser Alm Cable Car in Kompatsch and ends with a glass of fine South Tyrolean wine at the heart of the alpine pasture region—the Saltria Hotel Restaurant—where a bus running every half hour will take you back to the starting point.
From the valley station in Seis, take the Seiser Alm Cable Car up to the mountain station. From there, follow the local road 200 m to the right (south) into the center of Kompatsch, 1,844 m. Here, take the Seiser-Alm Road 50 m to the left (east) to the fork just past the modern wooden Church of St. Francis. Turn left onto the Hans-and-Paula-Steger Trail (Trail No. 30) and head east, initially on flat ground through meadows, then slightly uphill (looking back at the Schlern with the characteristic rock towers of the Euringer and Santner Peaks on the right, with a distant view to the north as far as the Central Alps) back to the Seiser Alm Road (Almbus stop “Steger”), which you traverse to the left. On the other side, follow the paved road briefly southeast up to the Hotel Steger-Dellai, 1,858 m, with a pond. Follow a natural trail through meadows and woods, ascending southeast to a hill (rest area). Turn right there and follow the trail briefly southward up to the Tuenehütte, 1,900 m,
