Biarritz-Pays basque
Not to miss:
• Ossés. The etymology of Ossés, Orzaize in Basque, sums up the two geographical features of the ancient settlement of this valley: flat and heights. Stroll through the streets of this charming village to discover its houses with brightly colored facades and carved lintels. The cemetery of the red sandstone church houses discoidal steles with evocative symbols: lau buru, trades, rosettes...
• Breach. This split rock may remind you of Roland’s Breach, but don’t be mistaken, it is just a geological nod to our history.
• Panorama. Upon reaching the summit, discover the Baigura ridges. For the more courageous, extend the hike on these grassy slopes scattered with rocks.

- Stay on marked paths to avoid damaging flora and disturbing animals.

Roadbook
Start. Leave the village towards Bayonne-St-Martin d'Arrossa (D8). Take the first right.
Step 2. After the washhouse, turn left then right, the path follows a small stream, then at 300 m cross the gate (and close it). Climb in switchbacks, pass the breach carved in the rock up to the enclosure.
Step 3. Bypass it and climb on the path facing the slope. On the intermediate plateau, take the path that crosses the slope to the left.
Step 4. From this ledge, continue along the slope to the foot of Halzamendi.
Step 5. Climb straight up the last meters to the summit. The return is on the same route. (Beware of the ravine on the east face).
