Return the same way or on the paved foot/cycle path to Bayerisch Gmain or comfortably by bus (line 841).
Variant:
Return via Wolfschwang and Großgmain:
Junction on the paved foot/cycle path from the pass height to Bayerisch Gmain ("Wolfschwang, Großgmain"), on a hiking path along the slopes of the Untersberg to Wolfschwang (viewpoint, refreshment, wildlife enclosure), continue on the oak path to Großgmain, finally on the sidewalk along the road from the state border to Bayerisch Gmain ("Großgmainer Straße") back to the starting point.

Train/BLB:S3/S4 Berchtesgaden <> Freilassing: Get off at Bayerisch Gmain, from the station square go straight ahead on Obere Bahnhofsstraße to the junction at Lattenbergstraße. Cross the street and go 30 meters to the right towards the former Lattenbergstüberl and there turn left into Alpentalstraße. Follow the street to its end at the hiking center.
BUS:
Bus 180 / Bad Reichenhall <> Salzburg and Bus 841 Bad Reichenhall <> Jennerbahn: Get off at Bayerisch Gmain Bridge
Cross the railway bridge and follow Lattenbergstraße until you turn right into Alpentalstraße at the former Lattenbergstüberl. Follow the street to its end at the hiking center.

From direction Munich/Salzburg/Lofer/Inzell:Drive to Bad Reichenhall. Follow the B20 or B21 to the Bad Reichenhall city center exit. Follow signs for B20 towards Berchtesgaden. Leave Bad Reichenhall and continue for 900 meters on B20. At the entrance to Bayerisch Gmain, turn left and cross the railway bridge, then follow Lattenbergstraße until you turn right into Alpentalstraße by the former Lattenbergstüberl. Follow the street to its end at the hiking center.
From direction Berchtesgaden / Großgmain:
Follow B20 until shortly before leaving town, at the shopping market (right side) turn left and cross the railway bridge into Lattenbergstraße. Follow the road until you turn right into Alpentalstraße by the former Lattenbergstüberl. Follow the street to its end at the hiking center.
