    Author’s recommendation

The route is ideal for toddlers with bicycles or balance bikes. Possibly, due to the gravel road, one should avoid going out into the floodplain and instead return on the dam (asphalt).

If we walk about 2.5 km further along the dam, we come to a memorial stone erected by hunters from Stephanshart as thanks for their rescue from drowning during the 2013 flood. The invoked god sent help in the form of an Austrian Armed Forces helicopter, which rescued the capsized hunters from the waters.

In snowy winters, a wonderful cross-country skiing trail is groomed in the floodplain near Markt Ardagger.

0.0/0.0   We start at Donauwellenpark in Markt Ardagger.

0.6/0.6   A few meters eastwards into the center, then left to the edge of town. Here we cross the B 121 with the Danube bike path near the Schatzkastl inn.

3.1/3.7   We turn left, crossing a bridge at the pumping station to reach the paved path on the Danube dam. 3 km along the dam beside the Danube, then (approx. at river km 2087.2) we turn left onto a gravel road leading into the floodplain (Grenerhaufen).

1.7/5.4   Through open fields and meadows of the floodplain, we cross the Grener branch and arrive at the Voggenau bridge, where the Landgerichtsbach is crossed.

1.4/6.8   Turn left towards Ardagger. Alongside the road through a formerly settled floodplain area (we follow the Danube bike path), we reach the Aussiedlerstein.

0.8/7.6   After another 600 meters, a road from Stephanshart joins from the right. Continue 200 meters along the bike path, then turn right at a right angle.

1.6/9.2   After 400 meters, turn left at a right angle and head between fields and meadows towards Markt Ardagger. Just before the flood protection dam, we return to the bike path and cross the dam (road as a flood protection dam).

0.5/9.7   At the motorhome parking lot, turn left and return to our starting point.
