High alpine pasture with mountain view, grazing project and snack.
Urschlau – Haaralm – Urschlau
450 years ago, 17 cattle owners still had grazing rights – today only the young cattle of 6 farmers spend the summer on the high alpine pasture above the Miesenbacher Valley. The Haaralm is a showcase project – here a “controlled grazing management” is practiced, where the animals are fenced in and the pastures are regularly changed. So that bushes and trees do not grow anywhere and the alpine meadows cannot become wooded.
Refreshment at the Haaralm – just look out for the flag – it points the way to the snack. The annually changing catering at the Kaser (alpine hut) is another special feature of the Haaralm.
Author’s recommendation
Right at the starting point Urschlau stands the small pilgrimage chapel Maria Schnee, built during the Thirty Years' War in 1631 to appease the Virgin Mary. It is not only a special little spot – here, when a thunderstorm approaches, the bells are still traditionally rung to drive away the storm. An old custom that has been maintained until today.
Sure-footed hikers will be rewarded after the ascent to the Haaralmschneid 1,594m with a 360° panorama. (Walking time about 1 hour, 1.6 km, 250 m elevation gain, round trip)
