Many paths lead up and around the Bernese local mountain. This route, called the "Gurten classic," leads from the mountain station via the east signal and Studholz down to the valley station.
On the car-free Gurten, hikers and walkers find a diverse range of routes all year round. Numerous paths lead up, down and around the Bernese local mountain. You can hike with or without the support of the Gurtenbahn, equally in summer and winter. From 7:00 am, the Gurtenbahn runs up the mountain every 15 minutes. The valley station of the funicular is easy to reach: it is located at Wabern station or just a few meters from the Gurtenbahn tram stop of Bernmobil line 9. Once at the top, you should first climb the observation tower. The Gurtenturm offers a wonderful panoramic view and a bird's-eye view of the city of Bern. Afterwards, walk along the path called the "Gurten classic" to the Gurten east signal. In clear weather, a wonderful Alpine panorama opens up from there. The path then winds downwards via Studholz – it is the classic descent from the Gurten.
