GTA - S. Antonio in Valle Vogna - Refugio Rivetti
At first, the suggested route deviates slightly from the GTA (10 minutes longer) by ascending to the right in San Antonio and following the valley above the road. This avoids the road and is rewarded with beautiful old Walser villages.
Right in the first village, Frazione Rabernardo, there is a Walser museum as well as some beautiful old farmhouses. Even without visiting the museum, this original village alone is worth the detour.
In Peccia (accommodation), you meet the original GTA route again. The path leads further upward through the beautiful valley. The pastures and alpine meadows offer repeatedly beautiful views.
Passo del Maccogna requires surefootedness on the rocky ascent and even more so on the steep descent into the wide valley of the Torrente Loo. After another pass, 2 km of a beautiful hillside path, and a last descent, you reach the Rifugio Rivetti.

To the right of the church of S. Antonio, a path climbs the slope upwards towards the end of the valley and after about 500 m reaches the district of Rabernardo, located above. From here, follow the path through the houses towards the end of the valley. The path runs relatively flat along the slope, passes other farms, and ends in the village of Peccia (accommodation) at the end of the valley road, which is closed here.
In Peccia, pass the higher located church and shortly afterwards cross a river on an old stone bridge. Immediately behind the bridge, turn left (do not continue straight ahead!) and after a few meters cross the Torrente Vogna again over another bridge. Beyond the second bridge, the path continues up the valley.
For a long time, it goes uphill on the left side of the river. Below a rocky rope section (photo), the path changes to the right side of the valley via a bridge.
Above the steep section, the path is somewhat indistinct. The path leads to the herders' huts and just before them turns right towards a rise in the middle of the valley. It ascends in several short switchbacks, then bends widely to the left.
Behind a small lake lies Alpe Maccagno, where cheese is produced. The path now essentially follows the course of the river to Lago Nero. Before the lake, the path turns right and then ascends to Colle del Maccogna. The last meters are somewhat rocky but can be climbed without problems.
From the pass, it goes very steeply down. Surefootedness is required here. Upon reaching the valley floor of the Torrent Loo, the path leads almost flat across the grassy plain to the shallow Colle Lazoney.
Yellow markings now lead further along the slope. Shortly behind the pass, keep left and do not take the descending path.
After a short ascent, you reach Colle Molangna Grande. From here, a clear path leads down to Rifugio Rivetti.
This is stage 8 in the hiking guide by Werner Bätzing.
