Gryden high-altitude circular trail
Lenk im Simmental is home to one of the most extraordinary places in Switzerland on the Betelberg: the Gryden. A circular hike leads through the bizarre rocky landscape.
From Leiterli, follow the alp circular trail for a while before reaching the Gryden signpost at P. 1983. A bench tempts you to take your first break here. Then follow the path to the left in the direction of the Stübleni Pass and hike clockwise around the summit of the Stübleni. Only a short time later, a clear path branches off to this beautiful viewpoint. Quite a few hikers take advantage of this detour for a sensational panoramic view over the Simmental and into the Saanenland. At P. 2077, you reach the turning point of the circular hike. The official Gryden high-altitude circular trail, marked with route no. 313, now leads back to Leiterli. However, if you have a certain head for heights and are sure-footed, you should definitely continue through the actual crater landscape to the refuge. The path there is narrow and winds its way along a rugged ridge flanked by deep sinkholes, offering wonderful views of the unusual rocky landscape.
