Grünberg (986 m) from Moosberg via the Mitterweg
Author’s recommendation
Since 2018, the so-called "treetop path" has been located on the Grünberg, where you can safely move at the height of the treetops.

No objective dangers. Only a very short section on the Mitterweg is somewhat prone to falling rocks.Tips and suggestions
Gmunden is always worth a visit.
The Grünberg is one of the most frequently climbed mountains in Austria. Summer and winter. In good and bad weather. Under good and bad conditions. If you are looking for solitude, you should choose another destination.
The Grünberg is somewhat prone to dirty path conditions, especially after longer wet weather. However, several sections of the path have been restored in recent years, improving this problem.
Roadbook
The best place to start in the Moosberg housing estate is where the Moosbergweg (left) and the Höhenweg (right) intersect.
First, walk a few more minutes on the flat asphalt road between the last houses (ignore a barrier), which leads onto the Höhenweg and follow it for a few minutes. As soon as you enter a forest, the Ortnersteig branches off to the left. Take this path – initially over numerous artificially created steps (tiring!) – ascend fairly quickly through high forest and after about half an hour reach the Mitterweg – a wide path that circles the mountain at mid-height (hence the name).
From here, turn right and hike with only a gentle ascent for about half an hour south, until at a curve the Traunmüllersteig branches off to the left. Follow this for 35 minutes (according to the signpost) to the inn on the Grünberg (986 m). It is open for most of the year and invites you to rest. The guest garden offers a wonderful view over the Traunsee to Ebensee and beyond.
For the descent, use the usual route towards the Grünbergbauer, which always stays on or to the left of the disused ski slope. Descend along this path until at an elevation of about 560 m the start of the (used for the ascent) Mitterweg is reached. Attention: Here on the Mitterweg, go a very short distance to the left, but after a few meters take the Moosbergweg immediately downwards again. You will finally reach the Moosberg housing estate and the starting point once more. The last five minutes are on an asphalt road.
Public transport
You can get to Gmunden quite easily by train via the Attnang-Puchheim-Wankham-Pinsdorf-Gmunden line.
If you arrive by train, however, you have to walk on asphalt roads through the town to the valley station of the Grünberg cable car and then up to the Höhenweg (Ortnersteig). This is about 3.6 km. Half of the distance can also be covered by the Gmunden tram.
Directions
The starting point Moosberg housing estate can be reached either via the road that branches off directly at the valley station of the Grünberg cable car or via a very narrow road from the Grünberg car park in the village of Engelhof.Parking
Free parking is possible. However, the number of available parking spaces is not unlimited.Coordinates
