Sightseeing and Hiking Delights on Gmunden's Local Mountain

A 60-person gondola lift from the town area of Gmunden to the wooded Grünberg offers the opportunity to reach the mountain summit without physical effort. Before the long descent through the valley, we naturally entrust ourselves to the 1.5-kilometer treetop path opened in summer 2018. It circles the summit area of the Grünberg about twenty meters above the ground, i.e., at "tree height." The highlight is the ascent of the 39-meter-high observation tower – featuring a 75-meter-long tunnel slide – via a step-free spiral path that is suitable for wheelchairs and strollers. The panoramic terrace at the top reveals a magnificent view over the Alpine foothills and Lake Traunsee to the glaciers of the Dachstein.

After taking the cable car from the valley station in Gmunden, we head from the Grünberg cable car mountain station westwards on the wide footpath up to the Grünbergalm, 984 m (Traunsee view!). Back to the Grünberg cable car mountain station and from there follow footpath no. 410 ("forest educational trail"), passing right under the treetop path observation tower, descending eastwards over the southeastern ridge of the Grünberg into the saddle at 955 m, in front of the Hochgschirr. Keeping right, crossing the southern slope of the Hochgschirr, continuing on a wide footpath in a southeasterly direction, later increasingly steep with some switchbacks downhill and level to the forest saddle Radmoos, 870 m. The crossing forest road 20 m to the right to the next crossroad and then turn right, soon to a junction. Turn right onto the "Mitterweg" (no. 04 and 21), along the wooded southern slope of the Grünberg, ascending northwest to a hill, then continuing westwards level and downhill,
