Tips and suggestions
Before leaving, we recommend you read the section Advice for hikers, equip yourself properly, take provisions, check the weather and bring a charged phone. In any case, do not overestimate your strength.
In the Jura, hikes follow paths and trails on private property that may also be used for other activities. Please respect the places by staying on marked trails and respecting other users (hikers, mountain bikers, horse riders, but also forest workers, winemakers, shepherds…).
The Jura is a nature and wilderness department, please respect the environment in which you move: Do not throw any litter, do not make fires, do not pick wild flowers. Respect the quiet of the cattle and wildlife by keeping away from herds, keeping your dog on a leash and closing gates behind you. Inform yourself about biotope protection zones, nature reserves or Natura 2000 zones where restrictions apply.
In case of forestry work (logging, hauling…), trail work (trail repair, clearing…) or ongoing or battue hunting zones for your safety, know to give up and turn back.
Roadbook
Around Champagnole, the walker discovers the rugged terrain linked to the life of the Ain river: source, losses, many waterfalls. Around the medieval town of Nozeroy stretch vast meadows, home to Montbéliarde cows whose milk is transformed into Comté cheese. Finally, nestled at over 1,000 m altitude, the Foncine site is an eco-friendly resort offering many activities in both winter and summer.
Many variations are possible to adjust the route and the number of hiking days. Inquire at the Tourist Office.
The Tourist Office also offers typical stays with options such as luggage transport, accompanying service, and midday meals...
