One of the most popular trails in the outer Grödnertal valley is undoubtedly the Poststeig (Ladin: Troi da la Posta) on the sunny slope from Lajen to St. Ulrich. Before the construction of the valley road in 1856, letters and parcels were transported on it from Klausen to the Grödnertal. Nowadays, those hiking the 4-hour route (12 kilometers) no longer have to carry loads or large amounts of provisions, as several rest stops await the perhaps already somewhat tired hikers along the way. So you can fully focus on the landscape, the picturesque villages passed en route, and the magnificent Langkofel, which towers promisingly over the valley's end like an open hand held against the sky.
From the village square in Lajen, briefly descend eastwards to the town hall and there take the main road (LS 139) to the left to a fork. To the right, the LS 139 goes uphill towards St. Peter to the bus stop »Baumann« (line 351). Turn left and follow the »Tschöferer Weg« (P stands for Poststeig), initially on asphalt then on a dirt road, with a beautiful view of Lajen, passing meadows eastward up to the village of Tschöfas, 1212 m. At the crossing street, keep right uphill to a left curve. From there continue straight on the natural drive and in a splendid high-altitude walk along meadow slopes to a fork. Continue straight here as well, later slightly downhill to the next fork. Turn left onto the forest trail gently ascending northeast, later steep footpath up to a wooded hill. Beyond, winding downhill, then (path with wooden railing) steeply down to cross LS 139. Follow this 30 m to the left, then turn right and take the footpath through the forest in hairpin bends down into a ravine
