The alpine crossing from Oberhasli to Goms already served as a Roman and Germanic trade route. In the 14th century, goods such as rice, wine, spices, cheese, etc. were transported over the pass with over 200 pack animals per week. Today, a historically significant and scenically exciting hike runs along the historic packer trail over the Grimsel Pass. Perhaps the most charming section of the Via Sbrinz leads from Grimsel Pass to Guttannen (or vice versa) with the Packer Stone, the Hälenplatte, and the stone arch bridge as contemporary witnesses along the way.
From the first curve of the road at Grimsel Pass turn left onto the pack trail and cross the pass road several times down to the last hairpin bend. Along the road to the dam and left over the dam to Grimsel Hospice. Already before the hospice, at the end of the dam, the path branches down to Lake Räterichsboden.The blasted path runs along the reservoir. Near the dam continuing downward, over the large and small Bögelisbrüggli on the well-preserved pack trail to the Hälenplatte with 16 steps carved into the smooth granite and an inscription by the glacier researcher Agassiz. Shortly afterwards it passes the Packer Stone, 1435 m, towards Hotel Handeck.Shortly behind the hotel, the small detour to the 70 m long hanging rope bridge over the Aare with gorge and Handegg Falls is worthwhile.
