Grein on the Danube - Stillensteinklamm
From Grein, the route leads into the romantic Stillensteinklamm and on to the Aumühle inn. On the way back via Panholz, beautiful views of Grein and the Danube valley open up.
We leave the main square of Grein following the Donausteig marking. Downstream along the Danube, we keep left at the town's end on the main road and turn right onto Jubiläumsstraße. Passing under the railway line, the path gently ascends. Now we follow the Wienerweg to the right and then turn left into Thannluß. At the end of the road by a row of trees, we turn right, pass through the tree line, cross the road, and turn left at the next path (access road Rammersböck). This access road leads uphill. Before the next farm, we keep left. The field path makes a sharp turn; we continue on the Kreuzleiten forest path until the trail follows a valley incision to the left. At the crest of a right curve, we leave the forest path and follow a forest trail first keeping right (parallel to the forest path), then uphill to the Werfenstein viewpoint – as the name suggests, with a beautiful view of Werfenstein Castle and the Danube with the island of Wörth. Swiftly downhill, we reach the railway line.
