The Lungauer and the Styrian Klafferkessel are among the most beautiful parts of the Schladming Tauern. The ascent to Zwerfenbergsee leads through a magnificent rock backdrop between Hochgolling and the imposing Waldhorn. In addition, there are many waterfalls that often plunge down in mighty cascades.
From Laßhoferalm, 1270 m, on forest road No. 777 to Untere Gamsenalm, 1390 m, and along the Lessachbach to an information board. Right – north – on the meadow path along the Zwerfenberg stream with its numerous waterfalls quickly uphill (one cable securing) to Göralhütte, 1878 m, and past the ruined Obere Gamsenalm. Across wide alpine meadows and smaller terrain stages, it goes towards the magnificent Zwerfenbergsee, 2024 m, in which the surrounding peaks are reflected. Shortly along the left side of the lake, then left up and over boulder rock to Lungauer Klaffersee, 2197 m. Further along the right side of the lake to the clearly marked junction to Greifenberg. Ascent first steep over scree, then through a gully to Obere Klafferscharte and left to the summit of Greifenberg, 2618 m. The return route is the same as the ascent.
