The crossing of the Grünstein is a beautiful, varied round tour thanks to the sunny and scenic ascent from Königssee to the Grünstein summit and the descent through the forest to Hammerstiel as well as the way back at the northern foot of the Grünstein. The east side of the Grünstein was hit by a severe storm in July 2021, which tore down large parts of the ascent from Königssee. The bobsleigh and toboggan run was also damaged in the storm and will be renovated in 2025/2026. For this reason, the facility must be bypassed on the ascent. The lower part of the ascent may be closed during this time due to construction work. You should enquire about the current condition and accessibility of the trail before setting off.
We walk from the Königssee parking lot, 605 m, to the Hotel Königsseer Hof. Here we follow the hiking trail to the bobsleigh and toboggan run at Königssee and cross the dam of the Seeklause, 605 m, on the covered wooden bridge at the end of the lake. A hiking trail begins directly opposite, which leads uphill across a meadow to farms. Keep right here and follow the access road over a bridge until the approach to the Grünstein branches off to the left after a section of forest. We now ascend towards Grünstein on the initially wide Klingerweg. After crossing another road, the path becomes steeper and leads along the steep slopes of the Grünstein to a bend at a ditch created during the storm in July 2021. The path ascends once again and leads in three hairpin bends up to the junction with the old Klingerweg. We follow the Klingerweg for another hairpin bend, past the start of the Grünstein via ferrata, 850 m. Shortly afterwards, we turn right at a junction onto a path that leads up into
