From the parking lot, the trail goes up eastward on a partly steep forest road to the Ernstalm. From here, the path continues without increase in elevation comfortably out to the Twenger Alm. Now turn left onto a well-marked and well-trodden hiking trail. Initially with moderate incline, then becoming steeper it goes up to the Twenger Almsee.
The ascent to Gurpitscheck leads on the right side around the lake and then steepens to the notch.
Then proceeds first moderately rising and comfortably along a beautiful trail along the ridge before it becomes stonier and some exposed sections appear. Over scree and a briefly secured slab, a large rock on the left side is bypassed. Shortly before the summit, there is another somewhat more demanding slab that is also rope-secured.
