GR57 - Great Route of the Aveiro Ria: Blue Route - Béstida Pier - Carregal Pier
The stage towards Carregal begins by bypassing a small peninsula filled with cornfields, which at its northern tip allows passage to the dune cordon that stretches from Ovar to São Jacinto.
Once, it was from the Béstida Pier that passage by boat was made to Torreira. The stage towards Carregal starts with a route to the north, up to Varela, where in 1964 a beautiful arch bridge was built, allowing land crossing between the eastern part of the Murtosa territory and the parish of Torreira, integrated into the coastal isthmus that connects Ovar to São Jacinto. We turn south, reaching Mancão Pier, where the agricultural fields of Bunheiro give way to the marshland landscape, in a filigree of channels, an excellent habitat for the estuarine birdlife of the ria. The streams follow one after another, winding inland: Gago stream, with its scenic boardwalk; Martinho; Boca da Marinha; and Teixugueiras, a gateway to the Pardilhó Streams Trail (Bioria). From pier to pier and channel to channel, the stage approaches the "Museum City of Tile", Ovar, not without first crossing the scenic boardwalks of Gago Stream Pier and part of the Pardilhó Streams Trail (BioRia), excellent for cycling tourism. It moves away from the Ria along a forest road, with a bike path, reaching its northern tip at Carregal, after crossing Ovar.
