A small but fine route with typical Bliesgau flair. A perfect Sunday walk through hill and valley. The best is to start in Alschbach at the parish church St. Maria.
Circular route from the Alschbach valley up to the landmark of the town of Blieskastel, the Gollenstein.
The hike starts at the parking lot by the church in Alschbach and leads in a loop above the town up to the ridge over Blieskastel. At the top, you will be literally rewarded with the highlight of the hike – the Gollenstein – and can simply enjoy the view!
In the last few kilometers, the trail leads back down towards Alschbach to the starting point of this hike.
Author’s recommendation
On the ridge stands an almost seven-meter-high sandstone colossus. For about 5,000 years, this plain giant stone, the symbol of Blieskastel, has stood here - the Gollenstein. It is one of the oldest cultural monuments in Germany and is considered the largest menhir in Central Europe. Precisely because of its significance, it repeatedly inspires researchers to imaginative interpretations and lively attempts to explain its meaning and purpose. Already in the 18th century, during the era of the Counts of der Leyen, excavations were made to uncover its secret.

The start is the Blieskastel district Alschbach at the village church St. Maria. From there it goes through Talstraße, then right uphill towards Gollenstein. Past the Gollenstein, always straight ahead towards the outskirts of the town of Blieskastel.
