Golica has always been a very popular mountain in the Karavanke. Although relatively low, under two thousand meters, it is known from a distance for its heavenly gardens of lilies of the valley or daffodils that cover the grassy slopes of the mountain in spring.
From Bled or the hills around Bled, looking north we see a plateau-like, mighty, almost completely green mountain in summer. There are no rocks, only alpine meadows that almost completely whiten with daffodils in late spring and early summer. Golica stretches in the Karavanke above the Jesenice clearings, high above the steelworks of Jesenice. Golica is a border mountain that shows Slovenians a friendly and warm face. It is known for its unique growths of lilies of the valley or daffodils. From the ridge, it offers views of Carinthia, Upper Sava valley, and the heart of the Julian Alps with Triglav. About half an hour below the summit stands the mountain hut Koča na Golici.
Author’s recommendation
The best time to visit Golica is in late spring or early summer. That is when the daffodils bloom. Don't forget to bring a camera on the hike. Excellent maps and guidebooks from the Alpine Association of Slovenia will help you on the trip. The path is well marked with red and white markings and directional signs; the Slovenian Alpine Trail runs over Golica.

Koča na GoliciSafety information
The lower part of the path partially goes through pastures and forest, later over steep grassy slopes, which are slippery when wet. The route has moderate elevation difference, is quite steep, but it is not technically demanding nor dangerous. The Hut on Golica is seasonally open; take a snack and enough fluids for thirst on the hike.

Roadbook
From the starting point, we head through the elongated village along the road towards the Sava caves. Behind the last houses, a marked path branches off from the road in a ravine to the left across a stream. It climbs steeply through the forest, crosses a forest road, and continues uphill up to the forest edge. When the forest ends, we cross steep meadows and in a left curve and finally very steeply in switchbacks ascend to the Hut on Golica. Slightly to the left above the hut, the path climbs through a grassy valley that leads to a saddle on the ridge (state border). From the saddle, we go left along the ridge to the west up to the wide plateau-like summit. We return to the saddle on the ridge, where we do not descend to the hut but continue east along the ridge through Mala Golica to Sedlo Suha. Here we turn sharply back west and descend towards the Hut on Golica. Below the hut, the trail joins the path we ascended on; here we turn left downhill and return through the forest beneath Peči and over Brdo to the starting point at Planina pod Golico.
