GOLD EDUCATIONAL TRAIL – Gütting Loop

When you’re in Oberviechtach, there’s one thing you’re sure to encounter: gold. The GOLD LEARNING TRAIL near Oberviechtach is dedicated to this special element that has enchanted people for centuries. A gold mine there was first mentioned in a document as early as 1318, and even today, prospectors can still be found working in the gold-bearing streams.
The starting point is the information center at “Gütting” near Unterlangau. The nature trail leads along forest paths through the historic mining areas, featuring impressive archaeological sites, prospecting pits, and tailings piles. Passing the Forellenbach stream and crossing the Murach River, you eventually return to the starting point. Along the route, informational signs vividly explain the history of gold mining.
