From hut to hut, not on a comfortable hut trail this time, but over the Sulden Glacier. This connecting path leads over the remains of the glacier tongue of the Sulden Glacier, mostly covered with moraine debris, which once flowed down powerfully from the Ortler slopes. Posts serve as directional markers on the constantly re-routed trail. The path requires surefootedness on loose scree. In return, magnificent views and rare insights into the world of ice are offered.
From Innersulden, take the cable car to the middle station. Then take path 2, gently ascending over the extensive scree area to the other side of the valley. Here you hike on a well-maintained trail in switchbacks over the green slopes covered with alpine roses. After an hour you also reach the small mountain lake, 2602 m, and further on the trail over the ridge to the Hintergrat hut with the small lake. The "glacier path" leads from the shelter in a southwest direction around the lake to the prominent ridge of the large Sulden moraine. From here, follow the clearly visible trail traces, gently ascending to the end of the moraine, 2745 m (information board). Here you turn left into the wide, scree-covered glacier basin, crossing it following the marking posts without large altitude differences. The glacier ice is mostly covered with rock debris.
