Gimel is located north of Rolle, at the foot of the Vaud Jura. We leave the village to the south and head towards La Step along the watercourse named La Saubrette. From La Step, we follow the forest edge for a short while before entering the Bois des Ursins.
We bypass the large plain of Bons to reach the road at point 678. We head towards the Bois des Soules which we cross via Le Rosey. A magnificent forest route. A small descent brings us to the Aubonne valley. A bridge allows us to cross the river of the same name.
We climb back up the valley a bit, retrace our steps, and head towards the Arboretum buildings (restaurant, museum). Trees everywhere are in bloom.
Our route now follows the left bank of the Aubonne towards St-Livres, which we will avoid. The undergrowth is carpeted with wild garlic. Military structures still remain along the roadside.
We descend towards the river up to the hamlet of Es Côtes through the vineyards. An impressive line of “toblerones” marks the landscape. Lavigny is not far away. A short climb of about ten minutes and we have arrived.
