The Hochwurzen stands as a viewing peak opposite the imposing Dachstein south face and is separated from it by the deep Enns valley trough. With a cable car, you can comfortably glide from Rohrmoos to its summit plateau. A high-altitude trail leads from the Hochwurzen on the northern edge of the Schladminger Tauern into the heart of this mountain group by the Giglach Lakes; it is one of the most varied in the region and can also offer easier and shorter variants. On the other hand, the main route can be extended into a two-day circular tour in connection with variant 2 in the opposite direction and return via the Neudeckalms to the Hochwurzen valley station.
From the mountain station on the Hochwurzen, we go down the road to the parking lot at the Hochwurzenalm and then right of it over the "nature trail" across the Kleine Wurzen or – more comfortably – on the road a little further and then right down to the Hüttecksattel (two path branches): First, the "hiking trail to Rohrmoos via Ghs. Winterer" branches right, then the one to "Untertal/Schladming" branches left. The high trail no. 60/773 continues straight ahead and winds from the saddle to Rossfeld, where many turn back (up to here "blue", variant 1). Gentle grassy ridges and open forest lead down to the Latterfußsattel and a short ascent up to a four-way fork: left "Untertal/Schladming", right "Lower Neudeckalm", half right "Upper Neudeckalm/Ursprungalm" (variant 2). The Giglach high trail goes straight ahead through open forest and alpine rose fields onto a ridge, then over the brittle northwest flank to the Guschen. From here we first continue on the ridge, then descend on the ridge
