The Geschriebenstein has many ascent options, of which the one at the border is probably the most interesting due to the short detour to the Hat Rock and the small caves. It is also interesting that the forest on the Hungarian side is densely planted with birches. Walking directly along the border is somewhat arduous due to overgrowth.

From the border station, a few meters into Hungary, to the first path leading uphill to the left, which is also one of the Mariazell routes. Follow this to an iron pole, probably erected for a signpost. There, turn right and arrive at a rest area on a small rise. From there, continue to the interesting rock formations, where a board with a description is located. The rock formations are the most interesting points on this section of the route. Then continue downhill to the first forest road, which is followed to the left to reach the path near the border again with ups and downs. The marking then continues uphill. However, to walk directly on the border, we climbed a few meters up into the forest to use a trail exactly on the border up to the Geschriebenstein. For this ascent route with short breaks, about 3 hours are to be expected. From the Geschriebenstein, first head towards the saddle until the marking pointing downhill to the left. We followed this on the Austrian side of the border and switched at a suitable point to the Hungarian side to return along our ascent route to the starting point.
