Eight days. Seven huts. Unspoilt nature.
From one hut to the next, uphill and downhill, through almost untouched nature: the Gesäuse Hüttenrunde shows you the Gesäuse from every conceivable perspective.

Of course, there is always an easier way up every mountain. With over 500 km of hiking trails and one of the highest densities of mountain huts in the Eastern Alps, nothing stands in the way of a multi-day hiking experience in Styria's only national park. The best way to experience the whole of the Gesäuse in one go is on the Gesäuse Hüttenrunde. From hut to hut and even completely flexible, numerous variants and mobile without your own car, there is no better way to hike the alpine Gesäuse.

    Public transport

Timetable enquiry ÖBB or Verbundlinie Steiermark

With the Verbundlinie BusBahnBim app, timetable information has never been easier to access: all bus, train and tram connections in Austria can be queried by entering locations and/or addresses, stops or important points. The app is available as a free app for smartphones (Android, iOS) – on Google Play and in the App Store.

In the Gesäuse, you can get around in summer even without your own car. Just call t: +43 3613 21 000 99: during operating hours, the Gesäuse shared taxi will take you to any destination in the Gesäuse – no timetable or stops required.

    Parking

We are, of course, aware that the most convenient and fastest means of transport is still your own car. However, we ask you to first check the possibility of public transport and soft mobility and to leave your own car at home as often as possible.
Parking facilities are available at the respective starting points, which are subject to a charge, especially in the Gesäuse National Park area.  Information

    Equipment

For the Gesäuse Hut Tour, "normal" equipment for alpine hikes on unpaved trails is perfectly adequate. We definitely recommend sturdy footwear and telescopic hiking poles to take the strain off your knees on the sometimes longer descents. For all mountain huts along the trail, you will also need to bring a hut sleeping bag and a towel. Click here for a detailed equipment list for your trail trip.
As the mountain huts where you will be staying are very remote, high up in the mountains, and cannot be reached by luggage shuttle, we are unable to offer luggage transport. We therefore recommend that you pack your rucksack sparingly and only take what you really need with you on the hike. It can be quite liberating to be on the trail without any luxuries!
