A great route for the whole family depending on the starting point.
The starting point of the hike is the parking lot of the gondola in Alpendorf. You can comfortably reach the hiking area by gondola (operating times: www.snow-space.com). From the mountain station of the Alpendorf gondola, the free "Ghost Train" takes you in about 15 minutes on foot to the Geisterberg at Gernkogel or you follow the path via the Buchauhütte to the Gernkogelalm. From here, you can either explore Geisterberg or follow the path to the right around the wooded crest of Gernkogel. Across a wide saddle, you hike to Sonntagskogel; on a trail, it goes directly along the ridge to the summit. The return route is on the ascent route.
A crossing from St. Johann to Wagrain is also often done, as it can also be managed by less trained people with the help of two cable cars and buses.
