GeoTour: Over the Gugelturm into the Schwarzenbächletal valley
Glacier mills are interesting remnants of the ice in areas that were once covered by glaciers. It is unclear whether the potholes at the Krai-Woog-Gumpen, the "loudly rushing waterfall in a depression", are this form of glacial erosion. The natural monument, which was only discovered and uncovered in 1955, is signposted in the surrounding area as a glacial mill, but the theory of its origin is now widely doubted. It is assumed that it is a purely fluvial form of erosion that only emerged in the post-glacial period. Regardless of this, the Gumpen is a nice excursion destination in an otherwise quiet part of the Black Forest, which invites you to take a relaxing afternoon trip. In addition to an extended walk through the Hotzenwald, visitors can expect great views from the Gugelturm and a section of the 7-Moore-Weg.
