From the parking lot, the path leads through the Liebesallee to the Bismarck Tower. Further along the southern edge of the forest, there is an impressive view over the southern foreland (semi-dry grassland on shell limestone) up to the Harz with its highest mountain the Brocken (1141 m).
The hike continues to Asseburg, of which only the ruins of a once extensive hill castle remain. The castle was built between 1218 and 1223 under Gunzelin of Wolfenbüttel as a Ganerbenburg.
On the Eselsstieg, the hike then leads down to the Groß Denkte sports field. Here the direction changes to “East” and a longer ascent begins up to the Philosopher’s Path.
Time flies by because the path is repeatedly inviting with info boards to stop and take a short rest.
At the cross-section in the Lower Buntsandstein, the approximately 200 m detour to the Rothenberger Pond is worthwhile; here, a narrow path leads westward to a doline (sinkhole).
Shortly afterward, the Philosopher’s Path and the next points (shell limestone ridge, trench in the lower shell limestone) are reached. The path now leads eastward along a constant altitude line.
After about 1.2 km, you leave the Philosopher’s Path and the hike leads to the still water. Here it is worth taking a break and enjoying the beauty of nature.
On the final stage, you pass the former shaft system Asse I before the starting point of the hike at the parking lot Waldhaus zur Asse is reached again.

If the entire trail is too long, there are always shortcuts available along the way.
