None of the Chiemgau mountain peaks reach an elevation of over 2000 m, yet they need not hide. A summit pyramid like the Geigelstein arouses our curiosity even without a height superlative. At its summit, besides the cross, there is also a small chapel. The Geigelstein is famous for its wealth of flowers; therefore, this charming spot has long been under nature protection.
From the hiking parking lot at the former Geigelstein cable car in Ettenhausen, we first follow the shaded service road up several bends to the mountain inn Wuhrsteinalm. Here are also the first two refreshment options; the Grafnkaser lies below to the left. A good alpine path then leads us through mountain meadows - partly over narrow switchbacks - up to the Wirtsalm. There the path forks (to the left a trail leads over a saddle to the Priener Hütte on the far side). However, we continue to the right and head toward the steepening southern flank of the Geigelstein, interspersed with rock ledges. After three-quarters of an hour of walking, we reach the connecting ridge between Breitenstein and Geigelstein (with a surprising view down to the Priener Hütte). There we follow the steep trail to the right, which leads us over scree and through dwarf pines to the summit of the Geigelstein, 1808 m.We cross the summit heading north and walk down through a dwarf pine corridor into the open
