Gartnerkofel
The Gartnerkofel is one of the three distinctive mountain peaks at the Carinthian Nassfeld and a beautiful route for the whole family. Starting from the mountain station of the Gartnerkofel chairlift, the Gartnerkofel hike is an easy summit route. The ascent follows a pleasant, steady incline partly over the slopes of the ski area. The last section to the summit cross requires a bit of stamina and surefootedness. However, there are no truly exposed sections along the entire path.
Alternatively, you can start at the state border at the Nassfeld Pass or at the Watschiger Alm.

Roadbook
There are three possible starting points for the hike to the Gartnerkofel:
1. State border at the Nassfeld Pass
2. Watschiger Alm (Wulfenia occurrence, flowering time May-June)
3. Mountain station Gartnerkofel chairlift (described below)
Ascent:
Take the Gartnerkofel chairlift up to 1,900 m above sea level. Here you will find wonderful hiking trails and a magnificent view of the surrounding mountains and the neighboring Julian Alps. From here, the summit of the Gartnerkofel is easily reachable within 40 minutes walking time. The easy and well-marked hiking trail initially leads over part of the FIS downhill slope to the mountain station of the FIS lift. From here, it then goes slightly right into the Gartnerkofel massif. On the left summit, the summit cross can be seen in good visibility. Follow the marked path to the Thörl, from where you have a superb view of the Gail valley, Hermagor, and the Pressegger Lake. Then continue left; the last ascent follows, leading in switchbacks to the summit. This section demands one last good effort, but it’s worth it: because at the summit cross, there is a breathtaking panoramic view and a rewarding rest.
The descent is the same as the ascent.
After the descent, the buffet „Zur Berghex“, the Watschiger Alm, and the Alpenhof Plattner invite you to stop for a bite.
