Garnitzenklamm
The approximately 4 km long Garnitzenklamm not only offers a fascinating insight into the power of water. It also shows which rocks can be found in the gorge and how they influenced its formation. Additionally, numerous rare plants thrive here due to the special microclimate. A geotrail with numerous display boards has also been set up in the gorge, which is divided into four sections.
From the entrance to the Garnitzenklamm, the foaming water of the Garnitzenbach accompanies us. Part 1 of the initially wide path soon becomes a trail. After the first bridge, we see on our right above us a smooth, light rock wall made of banded limestone (Geopoint 2). Then we reach a European beech whose roots have fractured the large rock on which it grows (Geopoint 3). From the "Ida Watch" (Geopoint 5) we have a beautiful view of a waterfall cascading over light banded limestones. Shortly thereafter, part 1 of the hike ends at bridge 3. Now we enter the narrowest section of the gorge, which here turns south. Here, the brook has created so-called plunge pools (also called potholes) with the help of rock fragments; these are basin-like, more or less deep hollows in the streambed (Geopoint 6).
