I start the hike in Furth an der Triesting, where a large public parking lot is available. Through meadows, it goes to the Amöd farmstead, from where a wide forest path continues to the Gaissteinerhof at the foot of the mountain of the same name. The marked hiking trail passes through the farm, then through a revolving door of a game enclosure that unfortunately restricts the entire area around the Gaisstein. It continues on a forest road to the large Himmelsreith meadow, where the unmarked ascent to the Gaisstein begins.
The path is only marked with cairns, but since the beautiful summit is no longer a secret tip, the well-trodden path upwards can be clearly seen. With some luck, ibex and chamois can be observed here; unfortunately, the animals are probably also the reason for the fences...
The rocky summit awaits with alpine flair, and the hiker is offered a great panorama. A bench by Haas Roman with intellectual content invites you to rest in this beautiful spot.
For the return, I take the crossing on the east side of the game enclosure to go over the Kirchwaldstein. Finally, I find the ridge path, but I cannot identify the summit because I pass several rocks at about the same height. I descend to Amöd off-trail through the forest since I cannot find a path down. Near the farmstead, I come out, and only the section over the meadow to Furth remains.
