From Tschierv to Santa Maria Val Müstair
I undertook this easy half-day hike in mid-June. It is actually unspectacular, if it were not for the meadows blooming in all colors – if they haven't been mown yet. And if they have been, then it unmistakably smells like? – mown meadow, sweet, spicy, simply wonderful. The villages are interesting: Tschierv, in Romansh “deer” and the highest village in the valley, rightly bears its name, because animals regularly appear here. There is also a small biotope to discover: La Stretta. Fuldera, decorated with sgraffito paintings, is, like Valchava, peaceful thanks to the fact that traffic does not run through the middle of the village, which cannot be said for Santa Maria and Müstair. In Valchava, the well-preserved farming village, a visit to the valley museum (Chasa Jaura) is worthwhile; the baroque church tower dates from the 15th century, and on the outskirts of the village there is a restored lime kiln to see.
