From the Zat Valley via Ait Stimane to the Yagour Plateau
This region southeast of Marrakesh in the High Atlas stands out primarily due to its remoteness and primitiveness. The Zat Valley, the mountain village of Quarzast, and especially the Yagour Plateau located southwest of it shine in a breathtaking landscape surrounded by impressive high mountain scenery.
Remoteness, simplicity and breathtaking nature characterize the region around the small village of Ait Stimane at just under 1,350 m above sea level. The hike passes old nomadic settlements with summer pastures for sheep, cattle and goats as well as irrigation ditches for the crops laid out with much love and great skill. There is no public transport connection – here the inhabitants are still largely self-sufficient. This region of the High Atlas is only rarely traveled and is therefore still considered a jewel with unspoiled North African culture and tradition. Those seeking rest, quiet and solitude will feel immediately at home here! From Ait Stimane the trail first leads slightly downhill and later in switchbacks along the hill through the small village uphill, continuing along the mountain ridge, through terrain adorned with mountain palms and holm oaks, valley inward and after the turning point of the small valley again uphill to the junction with the wide track.
