From Solothurn over the Bucheggberg to Arch
One will encounter many horses on this hike – or should one say walk? – and of course also the riders high up on their backs. For the Bucheggberg is something like the Wild West of Solothurn. A farming land with beautiful farms and charming villages, a recreational area for the people of Solothurn and Grenchen, and increasingly also residential land, as the ways to Solothurn, Grenchen, Biel, and Bern are not far. On the gentle hills with views of the Aare valley and across to the elongated Jura ridge between Solothurn and Chasseral, life is cozy. Normally, that is, when the helicopters are not rattling their rounds through the air from Grenchen airfield or the forest workers are not screeching with their chainsaws in the woods.
It is not a spectacular route that awaits the hiker from Solothurn station to the Aare valley outer village Arch. Yet it is beautiful and above all restful. Because there are no big altitude differences to conquer. Because you can start directly from the main station. Because you can quickly get back to Solothurn with the post bus and even by boat and then immediately add a pleasure round through "the most beautiful baroque town in Switzerland" and its many cozy bars. Anyone who has once discovered the magnificent town, its impressive churches and museums, the lively hustle and bustle in the alleys and at the water, and the varied surroundings will hardly find reasons not to extend the visit to several days.
