This hike follows the second stages of the Heidepuzzle and Lila Krönung long-distance trails from Soderstorf eastward into the Lüneburg Heath; both trails largely follow the same route. The scenic highlight is the Schwindebecker Heath. Shortly before the finish, the long-distance trails diverge in the Hörpeler Heath: “Lila Krönung” continues straight ahead toward Wilsede, while this hike follows the “Heidepuzzle” trail through the Hörpeler Heath and across the Schmale Aue to the endpoint at Egestorf, where Wilhelm Bode served as pastor from 1886 to 1923. In front of the church, a bust by the Harburg sculptor Uta Falter-Baumgarten commemorates the former heath pastor.
From the Soderstorf bus stop, take Mühlenstraße across the Luhe River; immediately after that, turn right onto Bahnhofstraße, cross the railroad tracks, and turn left past a thatched-roof seminar hotel. In a gentle right-hand curve, we leave the cobblestone street by taking the grassy path on the right between wooden fences and heading into the forest, where yellow arrows mark the way. After leaving the forest and crossing several bridges, we reach the railroad tracks again; ignore the first railroad crossing and stay on the left side of the tracks—first on a cobblestone street, then on a path. After 150 m, we cross the (disused) railroad tracks to the right—unprotected—which are used only a few (eight) times a year (on Wednesdays) by a museum train (heide-express.de).At the next intersection with a bench and information board, continue straight ahead to the main road; after crossing it, turn right and follow the path along the edge of the forest until it bends left into the woods.
