From Setti Fatima via Tamatert and Tizi n´Amanal to Tizi n`Boukchoud
Those who value absolute peace and seclusion will feel very comfortable on this route. Apart from the residents of the small mountain village Tamatert, where the last electricity lines end, one will hardly encounter another soul except nomads who, with mules, supply themselves with the essentials from the markets of distant villages across the passes.
Life here in the mountains is tough and most residents now move to lower regions during the winter months. Up here in the winter months, there can sometimes be so much snow that the villages are cut off from the outside world for several weeks in freezing temperatures. The impressions are immense, and so are the people. With the scarce water available, they still irrigate their crops in late summer to at least create some reserves for the long and harsh winter days. That is the art of survival! From the campsite under the walnut trees south of Setti Fatma, the path first follows the stream bed through the increasingly narrow gorge. The stream, winding between the numerous old walnut trees, is often crossed adventurously between massive granite boulders. After about half an hour, there is a change from the stream bed up to the left into a gravel path/trail that leads for about an hour up to the mud and stone houses of the mountain village Tamatert at just under 1,900 m.
