As the route is mostly exposed to the sun and not very steep, this tour can often be undertaken in late spring and into late autumn. The Spitzsteinhaus, which is part of the DAV project "This is what the mountains taste like", is a particularly recommendable refreshment stop along the way.
Author’s recommendation
If you have another day to spare, you can spend the night at the Spitzsteinhaus and hike to Hohenaschau via Brendelberg, Klausenberg and Hofalm the following day.

In the centre of Sachrang, first follow the village street to the south, then turn right and immediately left again into Kirchstraße and follow this to the south-east. After the last houses, turn right onto a track that leads along a stream into the forest and then uphill. After the wood, the path leads across a meadow onto a tarmac road, which takes you straight to the hamlet of Mitterleiten. You have to be careful here: After a large farm, a narrow footpath branches off to the left between two farms. Immediately turn left again and you will come to a wide track that leads briefly downhill and then uphill again to the west. Back in the forest, the track becomes a footpath and is well marked, leading mostly along the edge of the forest to the beautiful meadow slopes of the Steimoosalm. Behind this, the path, which is somewhat less clear in places, crosses another road and finally comes to a track that leads straight up to the Spitzsteinhaus (1252 m).
For the Gipfalan ascent, follow the footpath to the Altkaseralm above and branch off to the right onto a narrower path. This clear, partly somewhat eroded path now leads in a northerly direction, first in open meadow terrain, then in sparse forest up to the 1596 metre high Spitzstein, where there is a small chapel.
From the summit you have a great view of the Kaiser Mountains to the south. Return to the Spitzsteinhaus and to Sachrang along the same route.
