From Rossinière to Gruyères
This rather long hike leads from Rossinière in the canton of Vaud to Gruyères in the canton of Fribourg. You walk along the Saane river, discover two reservoirs, and the castle of Greyerz.
The hike begins in the mountain village Rossinière in the Vaud Pays-d'Enhaut. Highlights are the beautiful chalets with carved and painted facades and, just below the village, the Lac du Vernex. The lake was formed by damming the Saane river using the Rossinière dam. It does not matter on which shore you walk along, you soon reach the dam and then follow the Saane river for a short time. At La Tine, the path turns right and gains some elevation, so while hiking through the forest and meadow landscape you enjoy surprising views of the Vaud mountains. At the village Montbovon, you meet the Saane river again, which is dammed again here at Lac de Lessoc. You are now hiking in the green Intyamon valley. The somewhat strange name comes from the local patois and means “between the mountains.” At some point, the castle of Greyerz appears on a hill on the horizon.
