From Pointe de la Plaine Morte to Wildstrubel hut and Col de Pochet
The hike begins at the Pointe de la Plaine Morte mountain station. It lies exactly on the cantonal border between Bern and Valais at almost 3,000 m above sea level. The flat Plaine-Morte glacier lies there like a white carpet. Geologists call such glaciers, restricted to high plateaus, plateau glaciers. To the north, the glacier is slightly sloping and flows into the tongue of the Rezligletscher. This is where the Trüebbach originates, which further down merges with the source waters of the Siebenbrunnen into the Simme. The glacier has another outflow in the southeast via the Tièche to the Rhone. Thus, water from the Plaine-Morte glacier flows both to the North Sea and to the Mediterranean. We now walk a few meters exactly along the cantonal border, but then quickly return to Valais and climb to the right of the path to the Pointe de Vatseret.
