This easy riverside hike is perfect for families. Where else can you cross three suspension bridges in a row during a hike?
The Maggia slowly flows towards Lake Maggiore. Large stones lie in the wide riverbed, washed in at high water when the river turns into a wild character during heavy rainfalls. On the route from Maggia to Someo there is lots to discover for families with children: smooth rounded stones for building stone men, and on a warm summer day a refreshing swim is inviting. And where can you cross three suspension bridges in a row during a hike? After the first bridge at Maggia, the path lined with dry stone walls leads us to Lodano. Along with yellow signposts, brown signposts with the inscription “Vallemaggia pietra viva” accompany us on this hike. Various cultural trails make the raw material stone the theme. At Giumaglio we reach the second suspension bridge. A detour into the village with its tightly built stone houses is worthwhile. The suspension bridge of Someo has some rust. It is the longest suspension bridge in the Maggia valley. With a length of 340 meters, it spans the floodplain.
