From Ligerz through the Twannbach Gorge
This magnificent circular hike at Lake Biel entices with a magnificent lake view, a spectacular gorge, and shortly before the goal with a fine fish restaurant.
The not very strenuous route begins with a ride on the funicular from Ligerz to the sunny plateau of Diesse. Then follows a less interesting sidewalk walk with views of the Chasseral, until the hiking trail leads down through the forest to the Twannbach Gorge – and to a glassblowing workshop with bistro. Quite spectacularly, it continues downstream on the cool gorge path along the stream and also through rocks towards Lake Biel, to the wine village of Schernelz. Fish is eaten at the restaurant Aux Trois Amis, on the terrace with views of Lake Biel, St. Peter's Island, and the Alps. And certainly also a fine wine from Schernelz winegrowers Charles, Annemarie, and Sabine Steiner, whose estate is right next door. But what mysterious signs adorn the tavern sign? It is a so-called rebus, which resolved reads "Aux Trois Amis": O = aux, √9 = 3, A + mi = ami(s), 24494 = 24 April 1894.
