The "Vaulion" is a special mountain: It was formed during the Jura folding 5 to 7 million years ago. This massive earth movement, in which the mountain range was pushed upwards and sideways, "barricaded" the Vallée de Joux and created Lac de Joux and Brenets. Right in the middle of this landscape configuration lies Le Pont. The pleasant ascent from the train station first follows the end of the lake, then ascends to Pêtra Félix, where we meet the pass road to Col du Mollendruz. Here we turn sharply left and walk steadily upwards through sparse forest and alpine meadows to the "La Dent de Vaulion" refreshment hut, which is only 15 minutes below the summit. What a view at the triangulation point at the top! Below, Lac de Joux extends in its full length to the southeast, to the right the smaller Lac Brenet shimmers. Turning 180 degrees, we can see parts of Neuchâtel, Biel, and Murten lakes and the Alps chain above Lake Geneva.
