From Holzegg to the Grosser Mythen
The hike to the emblem of Central Switzerland is an experience no one will ever regret. Majestically, the two prominent rock spires sit above the Schwyz basin, and it is not entirely wrong to call the Grosser Mythen the Matterhorn of Central Switzerland. Its 47 numbered bends over 500 meters of ascent and 2400 meters of hiking distance attract around 40,000 visitors skyward each year. And if you also know that at the top, besides a magnificent panoramic view over the Glarus and Uri Alps and Lake Lucerne, there is even a hut, the attraction is all the greater. This has been the case since 1864 when the first serpentine path was laid through the rugged cliff. Since then, it has been optimized, widened, and secured with great effort, so that the route starting on the mountain meadows of Holzegg is feasible for everyone today—provided the views into the depths amidst a fascinating rocky scenery do not cause problems.
