From Fusio to the Acquedotto di Canáa
“Acquedotto Canáa 2h,” the brown cultural signpost at the entrance to Fusio points the way: upwards through larch forests, past the alpine signs of Vacarísc and Córt Mognòla. The mountain stream Ri di Mognòla, which falls further up as a waterfall, winds through the meadows. On Cort Mognòla, traces of irrigation channels are still visible, one of which is still in use today as an information panel reveals. Then suddenly we stand before a huge rock arena, in a hollow rests the Lago di Mognola. It is a glacier-shaped landscape, with scree fields and boulders. The path over to Córt da Canáa also leads over rounded rock hills and polished stone slabs. From the hilly terrain, the view opens up to the upper Val Lavizzara with the Lago del Sambuco reservoir. The tension rises as we approach the cirque of Canáa. An area rich in springs, unlike the lower-lying alpine areas. The Ticino farmers therefore directed the vital water via stone irrigation channels onto the distant alpine pastures.
