In the alpine scenery around the Sanetsch Pass springs the Saane river. On the hike down from the Sanetsch high valley to Gsteig and further to Gstaad, you follow the still young river.

The Sanetsch Pass connects Valais with the Bernese Oberland, the Rhone Valley with the Saanenland. By postal bus you travel from Sion up to the pass summit. There is quite a bit to see there: close by the Tsanfleuron glacier and the Karst region of Tsanfleuron, in the distance the prominent peaks of Valais. Slightly below the pass summit stands a wooden cross like a memorial. Perhaps it is meant to remind of old times, as the Sanetsch has been a frequently used crossing for centuries. Water bubbles in the meadows. Many little streams flow through ditches to the Sanetsch reservoir. They form the source area of the Saane river, which here on Valais soil bears the French name Sarine. We follow the young river and hike on the old mule track through the water-eroded landscape. Many hikers come from the Bernese side by the Sanetsch cable car. The former industrial cable car is operated in the summer months for tourism and is a welcome aid for ascent and descent. Downhill to Innergsteig
