This pleasant circular hike leads from Challpass to Burg Rotberg and back to the starting point.
This hike takes us from Challpass to Mätzerlechrüz and on to Metzerlen. At Challpass, Challhöchi bus stop, we take the hiking trail but soon leave it to climb along the ridge near Challplatten. Here we are surprised by a fantastic view to the north: the Upper Rhine Graben bordered by the Vosges and the Black Forest. A monument commemorates that soldiers guarded the Swiss border here during the First World War. The route continues along the ridge to Mätzerlechrüz. Here we follow the Via Surprise and descend northwards towards Metzerlen. After the large bend at the edge of the forest, we turn right onto a path leading to the power spot Seven Linden Hill. At Rotberghof, we reach Burg Rotberg via a long staircase; today it is a youth hostel, and from there the Bättental clearing. At Baholz, we come to the path that leads us back to Challpass after a short, steep ascent.
